Statistical Process Control Software

Statistical process control software (SPCS) is used in quality control, to monitor and control a process or processes, usually in manufacturing applications. By monitoring and controlling a process or processes, SPCS can help ensure that said process(es) operates at full potential. Running a manufacturing process at full potential enables it to create as much conforming product (product meeting specifications) as possible, with minimal waste. Statistical process control software can be applied to any process where the output of conforming product can be tangibly measured. SPCS is a valuable addition to a manufacturing facility's operations as it allows the examination of specific parts of a process or processes. Perhaps its greatest advantage is that it looks at areas of a manufacturing process that may conceal sources of unwanted variation in the quality of the product. When sources of variation are detected and measured, they can be corrected, and, in turn, correcting these unwanted variations can reduce waste and improve the overall quality of the final product. Statistical process control software provides a distinct advantage over other quality control methods, such as in-process or post-production inspection, as it emphasize early detection and prevention of problems, rather than correction of said problems after they have occurred.
