Gaskets

Time to Read: 1m 6s

A gasket is a mechanical seal used to fill the space betwixt two or more mounting surfaces. Gaskets are generally used to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects. These devices enable the reliable operation of machines with less than perfect mating surfaces by filling irregularities between those surfaces. In most cases, gaskets are cut from sheet materials into the desired shape, or profile. A wide variety of materials are used to make gaskets; material selection varies by application, and can be affected by the media being sealed, operating pressures and temperatures, and other performance factors. Gaskets are most often manufactured from material that has some degree of give, allowing them to deform as needed to tightly fill the space for which they are designed.
