Dies are the “cookie cutters” used in metal stamping to produce high quantities of the same identical part. While some metal stamping providers have their own, in-house die makers (often referred to as “tool and die shops”), most rely on outside sources to provide their dies, as it is a very different and highly specialized process. In order to produce parts that match the requirements of the design, close tolerances must be maintained in die manufacturing.
