Thyristor

Time to Read: 0m 28s

A Thyristor is a solid-state semiconductor device that acts as a bistable switch. Thyristors conduct when their gate recieves a current pulse, and continue to do so while the voltage across them is forward based (i.e. not reversed). They are mainly utilized where high currents and voltages are involved, and are frequently employed to control alternating currents, where the change of electrical polarity in the current causes the thyristor to switch off automatically.
