Composite Disc Couplings

Time to Read: 1m 6s

The composite disc coupling, also known as a CD coupling, falls into the category of flexible shaft couplings. A composite disc coupling is often used as a spacer coupling, and the principle use is to combine, or couple, two shafts together. Because shafts often have either linear or angular misalignment issues, the composite disc coupling must compensate for that alignment while still providing high torsional stiffness.

Composite Disc Coupling Manufacturers

Zero-Max is a US manufacturer of composite disc couplings, flexible shaft couplings, and complete servo motion control solutions. Zero-Max disc couplings have high torsional stiffness and a unique patented design that provides both long life and misalignment capacity as well as a broad operating temperature line. Composite disc couplings can funtion from -70 degrees F to 250 degrees F.
Composite disc couplings are used in any industry that makes use of servo motors, which includes almost all industrial automation. Automated or robotic processes make heavy use of servo motors that require composite disc couplings capable of heavy performance, since servo motors tend to start, stop, change speed and direction frequently and require couplings with great precision as well as torsional stiffness. Other industries that make use of composite disc couplings include machine tools, printing machinery, and automated packaging machines that are used throughout countless other industries that manufacture packaged goods.
