Centrifugal finishing is a process by which parts are finished using high energy mass tumbling to produce G forces that can deburr and polish metal parts in a fraction of the time it would take using conventional methods.

About Centrifugal Finishing

Centrifugal finishing generally uses horizontal barrel tumblers that rotate at speeds up to 150 rpm or higher. Centrifugal disc finishing is also a common method. Centrifugal finishing yields a finished product 30-40 times faster than more “conventional” vibratory finishing. Shorter cycle times allow for increased throughput and overall faster production time. This finishing process is also very economical because it can be run with little or no operator supervision. Additional advantages of centrifugal finishing include improved finishing rates, improved process control, increased flexibility, and the ability to achieve finer finishes. Batch to batch changeover can also be a very fast and easy process, allowing for a number of different processes to be completed in a relatively short period of time. Centrifugal finishing can be used to clean, burnish, deburr, clean, descale, de-flash, polish, and remove rust from metal parts and components. Compounds, lubricants, or soaps are sometimes added to aid the finishing process, particularly for cleaning purposes. Apart from soaps, sand, granite chips, and other materials are commonly used. In addition to metal finishing and polishing, centrifugal finishing can be used on stone, glass, and other materials, as well.
