Gas Detecting Equipment

Gas detecting equipment includes a wide array of devices designed to detect the presence of gases in an area. This equipment detects potentially combustible, flammable, toxic, or otherwise hazardous gases. Some models can be used to monitor oxygen levels in case of potential depletion, or to detect flames.

A gas detector is usually part of a larger overall safety system within a facility, which includes numerous detectors and monitors, as well as a control system via which processes can be automatically shut down in case of gas leaks or fire. Gas detecting equipment can also transmit warnings, using audible and visible signals (such as alarms and flashing lights), in areas where leaks are occurring, to alert personnel for evacuation.

Gas detectors measure gas concentration by responding to calibration gas levels which are used as reference points. If the level of gas in an area exceeds the calibration levels, the alarm and/or signal is activated. While early devices could only detect a single, specific type of hazardous gas, modern gas detecting equipment is designed to detect multiple types of gases.

Gas detecting equipment can be portable or stationary, and is vital to the safety and operation of a range of industries, including oil and gas, manufacturing, firefighting, and many others.
